Dorothy Smith Hudson went to be with our Lord on March 7, 2005, from a heart attack.  Dorothy was born in Sterling City, Texas on July 23, 1917.  Her mother died during Dorothy's birth.  Her father, Warren Shortt was a railroad engineer, traveling all the time so he could not take care of her and had her adopted by Clarence and Erma Smith.  When Dorothy was just two years old her adopting father Clarence died, so mother Erma raised her alone.  They moved to South Pasadena, California in 1930.  Dorothy and her mother were very active in the Presbyterian Church of South Pasadena, where Dorothy and Carroll were married.

In 1936 Dorothy and Carroll met at Woodbury University in Los Angeles, and they were married May 21, 1939.  After marriage they moved to Miami, Florida where Carroll had an opportunity to work for Eastern Air Lines.  Their first three sons, Norman, John, and Ken were born in Miami.  Dorothy was very active with the Salvation Army and Red Cross.  After six years in Miami they decided to move back to California where Carroll had a job with Western Air Lines.  As busy as Dorothy was raising three boys, she was still active with her church in South Pasadena where she led Carroll closer to our Lord.  They moved to the Westchester area of Los Angeles in 1948 where they were on the Founding Committee that started a new church, Covenant Presbyterian Church of Westchester.  Their fourth son Donald was born in 1952.  Dorothy and Carroll were active with the Westchester YMCA and I.S.S. (International Student Service), hosting students when they first arrived in the USA and helping them get settled.

In 1975 Carroll retired from Western Air Lines and they moved to Ventura, California where their son Norman was teaching school.  They became active with Community Presbyterian Church in Ventura.  Dorothy was on the Board of Deacons and active with the Ladies Joy of Living Bible Study group, and the Women's Circles.  She helped weekly with the Church Food Share Program, and monthly with the Family-to-Family meal service.  In 1980 they moved to Oak View (12 miles inland from Ventura) where they have been volunteer hosts at Forest Home Ministries (formerly Rancho Del Rey Christian Conference Center).

Dorothy is survived by her husband, four sons and their wives; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren.
