William B Stringfellow Jr

William Boothby Stringfellow Jr. passed away on Monday, October 1, 2007 at his home in Rolling Hills, California. Bill was born December 23, 1916 to William and Agnes Stringfellow. He was surrounded by family members and friends when he passed. Bill is survived by his wife, Ann Stringfellow; five children, William Stringfellow, III of Sarasota, Florida, Bernice Putnam of Avalon, California, Alex Stringfellow of Livingston, Montana, Robert Stringfellow, Avalon, Kate Shlaudeman of Pasadena; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Bill graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1937. His very active youth was spent in his wonderful home in Sierra Madre and family home on Catalina Island, which was built by his parents in 1924. Bill loved to skin dive around Catalina Island. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing and ichthyology. He was also an active member of the Tuna Club, California Club and was a member of the Rolling Hills Community Association. While living in Sierra Madre he became an avid gardener and landscaper which led him to become the Chief Botanist for Descanso Gardens located in Flintridge. Later, Bill became a Corporate Insurance broker. In 1945, he joined the Navy and in 1952, he married Ann Shlaudeman. Bill, Ann and their children moved to Rolling Hills and have lived there for over 40 years. Bill has always had a passion for all wild animals, especially the local Peacocks. He also was a dedicated philanthropist to many environmental groups.
