June 18, 1930 - August 8, 1952

 

Ensign Wayne Pearson Grogan, 22, son of Dr and Mrs Robert E Grogan, was lost in the wreck of a Navy patrol bomber on August 8, 1952.

The young San Marino Navy PBM pilot was among the 14 men lost in the tragedy when the patrol bomber crashed on the island of Shikoku, three miles south of Nagahama during a routine patrol mission from the Iwakuki Airbase near Hiroshima.

Ensign Grogran graduation from South Pasadena - San Marino High School and attended Alleghany College and University of Southern California. He left the Trojan campus in 1950 to volunteer in the Naval Reserve.

In addition to his parents, he leaves three married sisters, Mrs Cecil East of San Francisco, Mrs Glenn Roy of Norfolk, Virginia, and Mrs Jack Francis (Marilyn Grogan-SPHS '49) of Los Angeles.
