Peter Harold Ostrander

Peter Harold Ostrander  '54 was born July 30, 1936, in Springfield, Illinois, and was raised in San Marino.  He died July 16, 2007.

Peter became an Eagle Scout with his father (a charter Boy Scout) in 1949.  He graduated from the University of Idaho, BS Architecture, in 1959, and later received his MS from USC.  His career started in Boise, Idaho and he then moved to Pasadena where he was on the design team of the Eternal House of the Future.  He moved to Laguna Beach, co-founded the firm of Ostrander and Kishiyama, designed many homes as well as serving on the city council and being vice mayor.  He contributed to the design and redevelopment of downtown Laguna Beach and was on the team to restore Mission San Juan Capistrano, and donated his services for a school for the blind.  Peter then moved to Valley Center and held several positions in San Diego County government.

His contributions to architecture included government buildings, schools, residences, and more throughout the western United States, Hawaii, and Canada; some of his favorites included the San Diego Ice Arena, a residence/museum on Vargas Island, Torfino, BC, the Pauma Valley CC and a residence in Big Timber, BC.

Peter collected and restored antique cars, built his personal motor home, loved western novels, ocean sailing, the Sierras, and fishing anywhere.

Besides his wife Margo, he is survived by seven children and many grandchildren.
