Jerelyn Patten (Ewing) - Class Of 1954

Jerelyn Patten (Ewing)

Jerelyn Patten Ewing  '54  passed away May 25, 2006.  Her twin sister, Sue, writes:  "Jere had lived with cancer for nine years, enduring numerous surgeries, experiences with chemo, and a series of radiation treatments.  She took it all with grace and good humor reminding us she had many living and healthy cells in her body.  The night before she died there was a book study in her home, and on her final day she was out being wheeled around the nearby lake loving the beauty of nature.  She will be missed."

Jere Ewing, an Alexandria resident, was a native of Pasadena, Callifornia, graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1954 and from Occidental College in 1958.  She did graduate work in art at Northern Virginia Community College and George Mason University and attended a two-year lay ministry program at the Guild for Spiritual Guidance in upstate New York.

Jere was a studio potter who taught pottery classes over the last three decades at a Fairfax County recreation center.  She was a volunteer at Annandale Christian Community for Action and a member, elder, and choir member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Annandale.  She accompanied her husband on his Foreign Service assignments until they settled in the Washington area in 1992.  She did her pottery work on many extended stays in Northern Virginia.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond C. Ewing, whom she married in 1962, three children, six grandchildren, and her twin sister Suzanne Patten Tufenkian (also class of 1954) of Portland, Oregon.
