I knew Ray well. He was one of my best friends. We shared a lot of time together by just hanging out and listening to music from our favorite DRUMMERS.

I met him thru Gary Blumm. Gary took me over to Ray's to here him play. And after that day I was always back over there to hang out and watch how this little guy played this Big set of drums.

Ray always had a smile on his face and in his heart. You could tell just by looking in his eyes that as long as he could play music he was a happy guy.

He went on to be one of the Top Players in Pasadena. I know because I used to get the calls After they had called Ray and he couldn't make the gig.

Ray always made me feel good too, just by being around him. He was easy to talk with and didn't seem to care about what you had or didn't have. Just as long as there was a band to go see or other musicians to hang out with ,things were good.

Rays house was the place for a lot of local players to come and hang out and talk about playing and the players to go and see at the local gigs.

He played at a lot of the local parties everyone had in the summer. If there was a party we all came and if Ray was playing, EVERYONE came to see Ray and the Band.

I still think about him today. And how things used to be. I wish a could turn back time and see my friend again
and go hang out at Ray's.

I wish Ray and his family, and All of you the BEST.

Thanks,

Jon P. Venable ( AKA Jonny the Drummer )

He first played on my kit in Kempers basement. He quickly put me to shame and went on to become an exceptional drummer. Always happy go lucky, he was fun to be around and is greatly missed.
