Ronald L Collins

Ronald "Ron" Collins, a resident of Boring, Oregon, died August 14, 2009.  He was 77.

Ron was born May 1, 1932 in Los Angeles to Jeffrey and Theodora (Gatchel) Collins.  He attended schools in South Pasadena, California and was a competitive sailor during the summers in Newport Beach.  After serving in the Navy for four years as a dental corpsman, Ron attended California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, graduating with a degree in biological sciences.

Ron's professional life as an entomologist was spent in agriculture, first as a sales representative for Growers Supply and then with Velsicol Chemical Corp.  He then switched to research and development with the company.  Ron started his own business, Collins Agricultural Consultants, about 10 years later.

After his retirement, Ron was very involved with the St. Vincent de Paul Society through the church.  His lifelong interests included sailing, skiing, tennis, reading, and travel.  Family was very important to him.  Ron is survived by his wife, Alice McKay Collins; four children; four stepchildren; nine grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.  He will be missed.
