Marguerita E Geier - Class Of 1936

Marguerita E Geier

Marguerita E Geier died September 2, 2007 in Scottsdale, Arizona at age 91.  Marguerita was born on September 22, 1916 in Los Angeles.  She grew up with her three sisters in Alhambra and South Pasadena.

The Geier girls were accomplished musicians, often playing in parades and festivals.  Marguerita graduated from Mt. St. Mary's College with a major in music.  For 25 years, her love of music, art, and children made her an excellent elementary school teacher in the Mt. View School District in El Monte.  During her life, Marguerita traveled extensively throughout the world, collecting artifacts, musical instruments, and stories to share with her relatives and students.  After retiring from teaching, Miss Geier and her sister, Maria Geier, moved north, living in Santa Barbara, Fillmore, and Santa Paula.  They were active members of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, Tierra de Oro and Poinsettia Parlors.

Marguerita enjoyed gardening, painting, writing, and her dogs.  She published two juvenile novels, both of which featured a dog as a central character.  Most recently, Marguerita and her sister moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to be close to their younger sister and niece.  In Scottsdale she took up the game of Mahjong, and looked forward to the weekly games.

Survivors include her sisters, Maria Geier (SPHS '32) and Lenora Shay; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lenora Geier and her sister Helena R Keefe (SPHS '29) of Santa Paula.
