Wayne Hyde - Class Of 1951

Wayne Hyde

Wayne K Hyde was born on January 29, 1933 to parents Fenis and Della Hyde. Wayne grew up in Pasadena with his older brother, Dale. As a young boy, Wayne was an active child who was a bicycle enthusiast that would leave early each morning and ride all day. In was no surprise as he got older that his passion would evolve to include working on his motorcycle. In his spare time he liked building model airplanes from kits and played pool. However, to Wayne, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.

A typical teenager, Wayne had a fairly happy high school experience; he graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1951. He met his best friend, Charlie MacAvoy (SPHS '51) in 1949; they spent many happy times at car shows and were friends to the very end. Wayne enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Wayne was able to manage the balancing act. He earned his BA in Business at Cal State LA. He also attended Pasadena City College for Engineering. He was a member of the Pegasus fraternity. Fortunately Wayne enjoyed working and looking for new and interesting things to try. Showing a strong work ethic, Wayne began his career as a Design Engineer in the aerospace industry, then as a Life Insurance Agent, but decided to take on the role as a Real Estate Entrepreneur. Wayne always went above and beyond no matter what position or role he was taking on.

Wayne enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies; his favorite pursuits were racing cars, boats, and motorcycles. Some of his favorite toys were his 42' Erickson sailboat and a Scarab racing boat. Wayne also found pleasure in bowling, working out at the gym, boating, racing, and cars, watching football, baseball, and NASCAR. Some of his favorite vacations included Hawaii, Mexico, and taking long trips on his motorcycle to places like Stevenson, Washington and along the Columbia River in Washington. Throughout his life, Wayne was always actively involved in professional and community organizations like the Marina del Rey Yacht Club and as president of the Painted Desert Homeowners Association.

When Wayne's retirement arrived at age 40 he spent a lot of time enjoying the little things in life, but he also discovered that he had the urge to do so much more, so he went back into real estate when he was 51 in Nevada. Wayne built a home on Mount Charleston, but later moved to the Painted Desert Retirement Community in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wayne was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities 'retirement' offered him. It was also in retirement that Wayne met and married the love of his life, Lucy. Wayne passed away on November 19, 2015 at home due to complications from pneumonia. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucy; son Kirk (Felicia) Hyde, and three grandchildren.
