Carol McConnell (Dey) - Class Of 1951

Carol McConnell (Dey)

Carol McConnell Dey passed away peacefully November 8, 2018 in Wilsonville, Oregon, at the age of 85, surrounded by family. Carol was born April 4, 1933 in Pasadena, California to Clark and Regina McConnell. She was raised with her loving brothers, Clark Jr (SPHS '49) and Jack (SPHS '54).

Upon graduation from high school, Carol attended Redlands University and Oregon State University. She became engaged to her high school sweetheart, Ed Dey (SPHS '50), a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. They were married in 1953 in San Marino. Carol had meaningful ties with her family and friends and brought joy into everyone's lives. She and Ed cultivated an extraordinary group of friends as they built their life together. She loved traveling, fishing, and playing cards, especially cribbage. Carol was a talented artist, known for her quilting, wood carving, and paintings. A breast cancer survivor of 33 years, Carol was an active volunteer at St Vincent Hospital Breast Cancer Outreach Program. She was dedicated to helping educate breast cancer patients and their families. With her kind heart and experience, she guided numerous individuals through the realities of the disease.

Carol is survived by her husband, Ed Dey; and their two children, David Dey and Christy Suelzle. Carol dearly loved her five grandchildren as well as her nine great-grandchildren. Carol, with her spirit of generosity, kindness and loving heart, will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

*********************************************

Carol was a special person...wonderful wife (66 years), great mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother (nine great-grandkids). She was also the ultimate corporate wife...moving with me 14 times in 28 years with AT&T.

In her senior year at SPSMHS she was the Commissioner of Correspondence. At Oregon State University she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. I miss her a bunch!
