Malcolm (Bud) McDuffie, 93, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2009 in Montecito, California.  Bud was born November 14, 1915 in San Francisco to Mary (Skaife) and William C. McDuffie.  He graduated from Stanford University in 1940 and began his career in the oil industry the same year.

Bud became president of Mohawk Petroleum in 1969, a senior vice president of Reserve Oil and Gas, and later special assistant to the president of Getty Oil, Los Angeles,  In addition, he served as Director of the National Petroleum Refiners Association from 1970 to 1980.  He was a member of the Board of Overseers of the Huntington Library in San Marino from 1972 to 1998 taking great interest and pride in that institution and was also on the Board of Directors of the Caltech Associates in Pasadena from 1976 to 1982.  Always an avid sportsman, he pursued shooting and fishing here and abroad and was a member of the Order of St. Hubertus, an ancient European hunting society.  Bud was a horseman all his life, a member of the Rancheros Visitadores for 58 years and a breeder of Spanish Andalusian horses in Santa Barbara.  His quieter moments were spent in his vegetable garden and he took great delight in delivering fruits and vegetables to his friends.

Bud was a kind and gentle man much loved by his grieving family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.   He is survived by Mary, his devoted wife of 57 years; his daughter Cynthia McDuffie Camm, son Malcolm Duncan McDuffie, and daughter Virginia MacLeod Faraoni of Florence, Italy.  Bud is also survived by granddaughters Sarah Kawai, Megan and Allison McDuffie, Alicia Faraoni, and grandsons, Folco and Duccio Faraoni, and two great-grandchildren.  A private service was held at Church of Our Savior, San Gabriel.
