Kenneth Bruce Sweet

Kenneth Bruce Sweet, born September 30, 1932, passed away at age 81 on February 4, 2014 in San Juan Capistrano. Bruce was the second son of Kenneth and Helen Sweet.

Bruce developed a passion for jazz and played drums in the school band. Following graduation from South Pasadena High School in 1950, Bruce earned a BS in Public Administration from San Jose State University and a MA in Public Administration from USC. Bruce served in the United States Army as a cryptographic specialist in Wildwood, Alaska.

Bruce married the love of his life, Dorothy Burrows and they enjoyed 55 years together. They had two children, Denise and Kevin. They served God by teaching Sunday school classes, leading small groups, and doing missionary work in inner-city Los Angeles and Mexico. They were VW aficionados and avid campers. Their favorite vacation experience was camping in their VW Bus. Bruce enjoyed bicycling, making and flying kites, and playing tennis. He served as an LA County Planner and played a significant role in shaping the development of the Antelope Valley during the 1970s. 

Bruce retired to San Juan Capistrano in 1997. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; his daughter Denise (Dan) Hyde; son Kevin (Marcia) Sweet; three grandchildren; and two nephews. We all loved Bruce who was a very precious and kind man. He will always be on our minds and hearts.
