Hugh Trautmann - Class Of 1952

Hugh Trautmann

Hugh M Trautmann passed away peacefully June 9, 2018 at the ripe age of 84, formerly of Renfrew, Pennsylvania. Born March 24, 1934 in Santa Monica, California, to the late Herbert and Marjorie Milner. He is predeceased by his wife Barbara Bittner Trautmann (SPHS '54); his brother, Phillip Trautmann of Laguna Beach, California, and his fraternal twin, John Trautmann (SPHS '52) of San Jose, California.

Hugh is survived by his five children, Susan (Peter) Crist of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, Timothy Trautmann of Columbus, Ohio, Peter Trautmann (Steve Shipp) of Columbus, Ohio, Merrill (Kevin) Jacques of Rocky River, Ohio, and Anne Trautmann of Taos, New Mexico. He is also survived by five granddaughters, one grandson and three great-grandchildren.

His early work consisted of tool and design engineering work for many companies on the west coast. Starting in 1970, he became employed by Billco Manufacturing of Zelienople, Pennsylvania as a design engineer. With Billco, Hugh's innovation helped improve the flat-glass residential and automotive manufacturing process for years. He was the right person at the right time for the glass industry. He retired in 2003 as Chief Design Engineer.

He loved his family. His favorite holiday was Independence Day and it wasn't unusual for him to play a practical joke on a family member on that holiday. With his elaborate machine shop, he would rarely turn away a project or problem for a friend. He enjoyed ending the week at Billco with a friendly night of poker with his co-workers. He instilled in his children a sense of humor in good and bad times. Over a fire in the family outdoor firepit, we have enjoyed many laughs and stories with our Dad.
