Occupation(s), Career Details

Joined the Navy after graduation. After Boot Camp in San Diego I spent the next eight months going to Navy training schools learning electronics and how to operate and maintain navy training devices and instruct on flight simulators. That was the start of my military career. As a Training Device Technician I served at various Naval Air Stations, technical and fleet training centers as well as a tour at the Naval Research Labratory. During this period I also went to additional navy schools and was taught the repair and maintenance of the digital computers that are the heart of the then new Naval Tactical Data System.

After twelve years I decided to apply and take the tests for officer status as an Electronics Limited Duty Officer. I was selected and was commisioned as an Ensign in December 1964.

As a newly commisioned officer I was assigned as the Naval Tactical Data Systems Maintenance Officer to the USS Truxtun, a nuclear powered cruiser being built in New Jersey. After commisioning we sailed around South America to our home port in Long Beach. My wife Rhea (married in 1956) moved the family from New Jersey and she and our two sons settled in Lakewood, Ca. . During the next year( I was only home fifty- one days) Truxtun was deployed to Korean waters (the Pueblo incident) and then the Gulf of Tonkin. After leaving the Truxtun in 1968 I was sent to San Diego as an Electronic Planning and Instalation Officer at the Fleet Anti-Air Warfare Training Center on Point Loma. We bought our first home and moved the family to San Diego. After my tour at the training center I was assigned to the cruiser USS Chicago home ported in San Diego. While serving on Chicago for the next two years as the NTDS Maintenance Officer, the Electronics Material Officer and the Combat Systems Evaluator Chicago made two extended tours to the Gulf of Tonkin (I was only home a total of eight month during that tour.). After finishing my tour on Chicago in 1972 I was again assigned to the training center as the Maintenance officer. I retired from the Navy 31 May 1975.

After retiring from the navy I was employed at Computer Science Corporation in San Diego. Now I was working with a corporation that was working for the US Navy. While at CSC I reviewed Anti -Submarine Warfare computer program specifications and developed tests to confirm program operations. I preformed the tests aboard new navy ships to certify the at sea operations.
After five years at CSC I joined Ocean Technology Incorporated and continued working with new Anti-Submarine Warfare systems until retiring in 1992.

Since retiring Rhea and I have made many trips within the United States and a number of cruises.
