Occupation(s), Career Details

Went to NYU Film School then grad school in Special Ed. Taught in Manhattan State Psychiatric Hospital, Jr. High in Harlem, the East Village, etc. working with severely emotionally disturbed kids. Took out an ad in the Village Voice and met my husband. We have been together since 1985, married since 1987. Moved to So Cal and went to law school just for something to do and ended up becoming a divorce attorney. Was shocked at what a racket divorce court was and quit in disgust to do nothing but mediation for the past 5 or 6years. Have 100% track record with over 250 couples and love keeping my clients out of court.

Different places I have lived

Berkeley, Paris, France, Princeton, New Jersey, New York City, Carlsbad, CA

Family history living in South Pasadena

Mom and Ron moved to Pasadena in 1972 and they still live on Prospect Blvd. just above the Rose Bowl.

School Memories

Freddy Salas and I calling in fake bomb scare to get everyone out of class and then ditching school and hitch hiking to beach.

Milestones & Epiphanies

Moving from NYC to So. Cal in 1990 was really hard for me. I had never lived in suburbia before and went to law school just for something to do. I always thought I would go back to teaching special ed kids. But when I passed the bar I thought I had a responsibility to use my education so I thought about what kind of people I had the most success working with and answered, Crazy people. Asked myself where the crazy people were and answered, Divorce court and that is how I became a divorce lawyer in 1996. After 8 years of watcing people get ripped off by their own lawyers, I refused to do it anymore. I decided to work only with couples, outside of court and with no other lawyers. Doing nothing but mediation has been the best thing that ever happened to me and my clients. My goal became to transform the way people divorce from fighting in court (litigation) to mediation so that other kids won't get stuck in the middle of their parents nasty divorce like I was. I am one of the leaders of the Peaceful Divorce movement in the US and Canada and I would like to see a big change in my own lifetime.
