Met Ann in 1972 at Stanford, while serving food together in the cafeteria.

Lived in Bolivia for 2 years (as a missionary).

Married Ann in 1978, 45 years together! Yea!

Moved around a lot, - - lived in Honduras, Florida, Connecticut, Michigan, Kansas, Connecticut, California (Carlsbad), and Tahoe (Incline Village, Nevada)

Had a horrendous accident in December 1999. Was hit by a car going 55+mph as an "unwilling" pedestrian on I-15. Was in surgery for 9 hours. Very fortunate and blessed to be alive.

After 20+ years of major endeavors in the Corporate world; 10 years with United Technologies; 10 with PepsiCo. Also for 7 years I was Chief Operating Officer for AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) a San Diego-based non-profit. We assisted children who were the first in their families to go to college. (see www.avidonline.org) We trained over 20,000 educators each year. It was a wonderful cause to be associated with.

Very happy to live next to the ocean, in Carlsbad, CA and in the mountains at Lake Tahoe, (Incline Village, NV). At different times, both Ann and I served on the Carlsbad School Board. 8 years for me. 4 for Ann.
Lived in Frankfurt, Germany, providing volunteer services (Welfare, Disaster Recovery, Self Reliance, Psychotherapy) to those in need throughout Europe.

I very much enjoy being alive. I realize that hard things happen to everyone. Some challenges are visible to the world, others are dealt with privately.

Here is the best advice I have ever been given:

Life is good.
Let it go.
Choose to be happy.

There were many experiences and people from South Pasadena that have made a good and meaningful difference in my life.

I enjoyed learning; drama productions; sports and most of all being with other people.

Thanks to all! My life is better because of you.

Rob was a good friend to me from the time we were at El Centro through High School.  He and Hugh would always walk home from El Centro with me.  I recall trying to keep up with their long strides.  Rob was a very good baseball pitcher and also enjoyed basketball.   He was friendly and kind to all.

I miss him and his good spirit.

Kim was a good person.  I remember completing against him in Little League baseball.  He was the sidearm pitcher that intimidated a lot of players.

Always very kind to everyone.

Mark Tanner has left an In Memory comment for Harold 'Hal' Hartsough.
Jul 02, 2019 at 5:33 PM

Mr. Hartsough was a wonderful school counselor and a great and caring person.  He always seem to have tme for me whenever I needed to counsel with him about college.  All of my older siblings had attended BYU, and I did not want to follow them there.  For 17 years, I had always had teachers that had already taught them.

Mr. Harsough and I worked out a plan to apply to Stanford, Harvard and Berkeley.  I decided to attend Stanford which was a perfect place for me (and I met my wife Ann, who grew up in La Canada there).  So many years later I still remember Mr. Hartsough with fondness and gratitude.
