Sam B Flora Jr - Class Of 1954 VIEW PROFILE

Samuel Bennett Flora ('Sam'), Jr. passed away on March 10, 2014 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Los Angeles, California on February 22, 1936, to Dorothy (Corbett) and Samuel Bennett Flora. He grew up in Southern California and attended Stanford University before earning his BA in Philosophy from Brown University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Sam's 35 year career with the Bethlehem Steel Company was in sales and marketing and was the Regional Manager for Midwest Sales, living in St. Louis, Missouri when he retired in 1995. He was selected "Peddler of the Year" in 1993 by his peers. He was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International when President-elect of Clayton, Missouri Rotary. In St. Louis he was president of the Tennessee Society and a founding member of TEC (an international organization of CEOs). He was commissioned to be a Stephen Minister and was a member of Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church where he also served on the Session.

Sam was a wonderful dedicated family man. He was an amazing dancer, loved baseball, golf, reading, music, and always encouraged everyone to dream big. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those left behind, and he will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Family members include his loving wife of 52 years, Anne Flora; daughter Elizabeth (Kevin) Ross and granddaughter Katie, of Jacksonville, Florida; son Corbett Flora of Branson, Missouri; and brother, A. Neil Flora (SPHS '52) of Arcadia, California.
