Bruce Stewart

March 31, 1937 - October 22, 2012

Bruce, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. From age six months when he emigrated from Vancouver, British Columbia, Bruce's childhood homes were in Hollywood and San Marino. Bruce met Peggy (Morgan), his wife of 48 years, while in high school. Together they raised their family in Pasadena.

Bruce's wide-ranging activities were defined by his creativity, humor, wit, curiosity, intellect, and especially his generosity of spirit toward family and friends. We remember his first car, the Bean Wagon, the candy bomb on Fourth of July, the skeleton door at Halloween, the aquaboard in Mexico, trips aboard the Acacia, and hunting and fishing trip antics. He was a charter member of the Floobydust Society and helped organize the early years of the DooDah Parade. It was just his sort of event.

Bruce was an intuitive and innovative scientist who designed and commercialized a then small sized computer in the early 1970s at his company Multidata. He was a life-long entrepreneur beginning with Stellar Electronics in his youth and including among the 18 or more businesses that he founded were Multidata, Chancellor Computer Company, Electronic Amusement Devices (EAD), Micropin Corporation, Annandale Securities, Barneys Ltd in Old Pasadena, Acacia Research Corporation, and most recently Arrowhead Research Corporation in Pasadena. His business associates remember that he gave many people the vehicle and opportunity to succeed.

Bruce will be greatly missed by Peggy, daughter Jody Sievers (Paul); sons Michael, Rob, and Tom (Stephanie);eight grandchildren, and sisters, Jean Stewart Berg (SPHS '51), Marianne Lidner and Janne Regan. His parents were Campbell and Grace Stewart.
