John Howard

After high school I attended West Coast Trade School for auto mechanics & shortly after worked for & with Samuel E. Smith, founder of S.E. Smith & Sons mobile auto & truck repair based in So. Pas. In 1980 I came to Laguna Beach for two weeks of temporary work & never left. Became interested in stained glass & studied under Ken Sequine & Klaus Wolfran before starting my own stained glass business in 1982 and blanketed the Laguna Beach area with works until 1986. To subsidize the glass business, I began a career in offset printing & worked for various shops from San Juan Capistrano to Anaheim. 1988 to present, I work from home under jwh design & print as pre-press, computer graphics and print broker.

Carol Cooper (Howard) -class of 67, Allan Howard. One niece from my sister Carol & one nice & one nephew from my brother Allan and their four kids combined.

Through the "Classmates" web site, I have been in touch with: Marsha Smith, John Pitre, Randy Mountain, Dave Smith & Jody Smith. Jr. High sweetheart, Polly Hohmann (Oppelt).

Unfortunately, can't say my memories of school were fond. Couldn't wait to get out on my own.

First married in 1986 & ended in divorce 1989. Happily remarried 1997 to my wife Joan of 13 years, who is now deceased. Diagnosed with colo-rectal cancer 2001. After radiation & chemo. am now in remission. No children from either marriage. (Thank God).

Past time hobbies & interests were snow skiing (downhill & cross country) & back packing. Gave up motorcycles 2011. I do a little woodworking in my garage and have started writing again, a book I started four years ago.

2011 is a year I can't forget soon enough. July 4th my wife woke at 1:30 AM complaining of pain in her hips. Long story short, she died at Mission Hospital 8:30 PM that night. Cause of death was septic shock, possibly from a dog bite she received at her dog grooming shop. July 5th I was rushed to emergency for what the Dr. thought was a blood clot in my left leg, but turned out to be edema. My wife's memorial service was held August 14th and the next day I was diagnosed with "giant torn retina" in my right eye and rushed to emergency surgery. Two weeks later it tore again (same eye) & another emergency surgery. Third surgery now & I finally have measurable eyesight in that eye 20/60. All this happing while I've had to move due to financial reasons & sell my wife's business. I relocated Dec. 10th and Dec. 28th I had my/my wife's 16 year old Shitzu put down. I'm now waiting for an estate sale to take place of Joan & mine's belongings.

No real regrets since 1968 for following my passions except for one - and that would be smoking. By far the hardest addiction to overcome.
