Gloria M Platenberg (Larkin)

Gloria Platenberg Larkin passed away in Southern California on January 5, 2017. Gloria, the older of two children, was born at St Vincent's Hospital in Los Angeles and spent most of her life in San Marino, South Pasadena, and Pasadena. She is survived by her brother, Bob Platenberg (SPHS '48); three children, Anne, John, and Jim; and three grandchildren, Thomas, Amy, and Andrew.

Gloria graduated from South Pasadena High School. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Whittier College and Pepperdine University, respectively. Gloria served her calling as an early childhood educatior within the Alhambra Schools District for more than four decades. Gloria enjoyed volunteer work and support of the arts in Southern California. She served as a docent at the Huntington Library and as a volunteer at Pasadena's Gamble House. She was active in the San Marino League, the Assistance League, Nine O'clock Players, National Charity League, and Epsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She truly loved art, travel, family, and friends. To the end, she always had a smile, something positive to say, and a desire to help make a difference. She will be missed.
