John Hanks

John Hanks passed away on September 24, 2003, at age 74, in Eureka, California.  John was born on October 10, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois.  He worked for the Los Angeles Police Department, attaining the rank of Lieutenant and retired after 23 years of service.  He moved to Humboldt County in 1973 and worked for the State Parks System as a Park Ranger for 12 years.  He was a kind and sturdy man with exemplary values.  He will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Hanks of Fortuna; his older brother, George Hanks (SPHS '43) of Mission Viejo; his son, Randy and his wife Elaine of Eugene, Oregon; his son, Gary and his wife Tricia of Kneeland; his son, Tim of Eureka; daughters-in-law, Chris of Sacramento and Lori of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Melissa, Alicia, and Evan Hanks of Eugene, OR., Stephanie and Jennifer Hanks of Duarte, CA., Christopher and Jonathan Hanks of San Diego, CA., Cindy Saunders of North Carolina, Colleen, KeliAnne, and Kaitlin Hanks of Bakersfield; grandstepson, Scott Harris of Arcata; and numerous nieces and nephews.  John was preceded in death by his eldest son, Michael, in 1992; and his mother and stepfather, Kathryn and Don Black.
