Vanessa Crosby (Weber) - Class Of 1948

Vanessa Crosby (Weber)

Vanessa (April 10, 1930 - July 27, 2018) was the youngest of three children born to Mary and Joseph Crosby. She and her brother, Joe Crosby (SPHS '37) and sister, Betty Ann Crosby (SPHS '40) attended South Pasadena Schools. After her graduation she attended the University of Hawaii for one year, then returned home to attend USC and earn a Journalism degree, writing for the Daily Trojan

While at USC, Vanessa joined a group of classmates who formed the Schneerflocken Ski Club and these pioneer skiers traveled to the newly developing Mammoth Mountain. The group of lifelong friends met regularly for 65 years. It was the ski club that brought Vanessa and Warren Weber together. They married in August 1953.

As mother of four, Leslie (Bill) Orsburn, Gretchen (Murray) Fins, Frederick, and Mary, she fulfilled her career as a stay at home mom. With encouragement and enthusiasm, she supported her children's pursuits; team sports, music lessons, scouts, diving, archery, rugby, and more. The best family memories were winter on the slopes and summers in the sand. After Warren's retirement and with the children grown, her adventurous spirit took them around the globe; from South Pacific Islands to Europe, Africa, and beyond, including both Panama and Suez Canals. The entire family celebrated their 50th anniversary together on an Alaskan cruise in 2003; the first of many cruises to follow. Vanessa and Warren gave their family the gift of time spent together and shared in all types of activities from jet skiing to horseback riding and even zip-lining. Vanessa's greatest joy later in life were her three grandchildren and then great-grandchildren.

Vanessa and Warren supported a variety of philanthropic and community organizations over the years. This past April they were honored with the Legacy Award for their many years supporting the Kare Youth League in Arcadia, California. Vanessa also had a loving, supporting congregation of friends at the Kare Youth Church, which she attended regularly.

In addition to her husband and immediate family, other survivors include nieces and nephews, including William Crosby (SPHS '63) and Scott Crosby (SPHS '60).
