Owen Wilkinson - Class Of 1949

Owen Wilkinson

Owen T Wilkinson passed away on March 28, 2013.  He was a family man, a professional investment counselor, an avid golfer, and a man of exceptional integrity.

Owen was born September 7, 1930 in Los Angeles, the youngest of four children.  His father moved the family to San Marino when Owen was eight years old and he attended San Marino schools and graduated from South Pasadena-San Marino High School in 1949.  He then attended Pomona College and graduated in 1953 with a major in economics.  He met his wife, Sharon Sommer (SPHS '51) at college and they were married two years later in 1955.

Due to his great interest in economics, he wrote his Pomona thesis on the stock market where it was passed on and read by the President of Wagenseller and Durst who then hired him.  Owen went to work as a stock broker at White Weld & Company in 1971.  He later became a shareholder and vice president at White Weld & Company.  Kidder Peabody bought out White Weld, where Owen also worked.  He became a shareholder in 1978.  He started his own company, Owen T. Wilkinson & Associates Investment Counselor in 1985; where he loved serving his clients and working with his employees, many of whom looked to him as a second father, until his retirement in 2012.

Owen became a junior member of San Gabriel County Club in 1954, then a regular member in 1966.  He was elected to the board of directors during the 1970s and became president in 1981 and 1982.  He became Chairman of the Rules Committee at SGCC in 1988.  Owen loved golf and became a volunteer Rules Official in 1989 with the Southern California Golf Association until retiring from the group in 2011.

Owen was the beloved husband and the father of two children, Cindy and Steve.  We shall miss our dear Owen tremendously and wish him rest in peace.
