Phillida Campbell Bond (Mirk) - Class Of 1944

Phillida Campbell Bond (Mirk)

In high school, Phillida was known as "Pete".  She met Allen while she was working at Alta, Utah and was married on August 13, 1949.  Initially they lived for a year in Long Beach, California but then Allen's work took them to New England.  In 1952 they settled in Westport, Connecticut where they raised a boy and three girls.  As the children became more independent, Phillida went back to school for a second degree in Industrial Design.  In 1970 they moved to London, England for several years before returning to Connecticut where Phillida's artistic talent led to a designer's role with a commercial wallpaper firm.  In 1981 when Allen retired they realized their dream of living on the Maine coast on the island of Islesboro.  There she joined the Baptist Church Sewing Circle and for years produced beautiful quilts, both for profit and sharing.  They owned a sailboat, Minstrel, enjoying outings with family and friends.  She also continued skiing downhill, but later switched to cross country.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Phillida, born March 9, 1927, died June 18, 2011 in Camden, Maine.  She was 84.  She is survived by her husband Allen; sister Flora Bond Hollinger (SPHS '41); four children; and nine grandchildren.
