March 1945 - July 1946
 

I joined the Navy after my freshman year at Pomona college. The draft was looming and I wanted to join the Navy's Radio Material Program. I went to Great Lakes for boot camp. We were sent to Chicago for basic training. Then to Del Monte here in California for three months. After finishing the courses at Del Monte we were sent to Treasure Island for hands-on work with the various Navy radios, radar, sonar and so on. We were discharged from Treasure Island early in July 1946 before finishing the six-month course.
