Ruby Jane Hayward (Jorgensen)

Jane Hayward Jorgensen passed away on April 18, 2014 in Bradbury, California. She was born on July 8, 1926 in Oxnard, California to Samuel and Andrea Hayward. Jane grew up in the Pasadena/Los Angeles area and attended South Pasadena-San Marino High. She graduated from Occidental College where she met and married her husband of 67 years, Walter Ernest Jorgensen. They were married in the chapel of the college by Jane's grandfather, a Presbyterian minister.

Jane and Walter raised their family in South Pasadena where they designed and built their family home of 52 years. Jane was active in many volunteer organizations, including the Assistance League, LA County Art Museum (docent) and the Huntington Library (docent). She was a past member of the Valley Hunt Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the California Associates, among others.

Jane skied all over the western United States, was a dedicated tennis player and sailor-navigator. Jane and Walter made many trips abroad including sailing charters with their Los Angeles Yacht Club friends. She received great joy from watching her children and grandchildren grow and mature. She provided loving support and encouragement and was always willing to listen and offer wisdom. 

She was predeceased by her parents, sister Nancy Krenzel (SPHS '51) and brother Robert Hayward (SPHS '39). She is survived by her loving husband Walter, children Thomas (Dixie), Andrea, and Douglas (SPHS '73) and his wife Margaret; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother William Hayward (SPHS '41). Beloved and revered as the matriarch of the Hayward and Jorgensen Clans, Jane will be forever missed.
