William G King III

A longtime San Marino resident, William G. King III, son of the late William G and Charlotte (Winter) King passed away December 13, 2011.  He was born in Seattle, Washington May 1, 1926.

Bill graduated from South Pasadena High School and the University of Texas with a combined major in Business and Engineering.  He served in the U.S. Navy and was discharged as a lieutenant (USNR).  Bill had a fulfilling 33-year business career in banking, all with First Interstate Bank.  He was active in civic affairs in Pasadena and San Marino.  Bill was an active and involved board member with the Huntington Institute for Medical Research (HMRI) joining the board in 1971 and serving as Treasurer, Vice President, and President (2002).  He served as Treasurer of the City of San Marino from 1971-1975.  Bill was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying upland game hunting in Baja and Palm Desert, fly fishing in the Sierras, Montana, and Wyoming, golfing with his many friends, and traveling with his dear wife. 

Bill is survived by his loving family including his wife, Carol Taylor King; two sons, W. Gregory King IV (Alfrida) of South Pasadena, Thaddeus Taylor King (Angela) of South Pasadena; and Katherine Louise King (Torrey Sun) of Altadena; four grandchildren, Alexander and Charlotte King and Taylor and Bryan King; sister Charlotte King Myers (SPHS '39) of Monarch Beach.  Bill is also survived by the many hundreds of friends who were lucky enough to make his acquaintance.
