Frances Schnebly (Hutchins)

Frances Elaine Schnebly Hutchins, a 12-year resident of Paradise, California, passed away July 27, 2014 in Paradise. Frances was born in Independence, Kansas on August 1, 1926, to Ver and Margaret Schnebly. She attended South Pasadena High School, and after graduation she went on to a secretarial school. That training helped her attain a career with the Rio Hondo College Police Academy, where she served as the Executive Secretary to the Director for 25 years before retiring. She was considered the "Mother Superior" at the academy during that time. She retired in 1988. She was a resident of Whittier for 35 years, Atascadero for 15 years, and Paradise for 12 years.

Frances was deeply religious and was a founding member of the East Whittier Methodist Church, as well as an active member in Eastern Star, East Whittier Junior Woman's Club, PTA, Emblem Club (Elk's Women), and Emeriti Assoc. Rio Hondo College. Frances married the love of her life, Roy Hutchins in 1944 and they enjoyed 63 years together before his passing. She was a wonderful homemaker, especially enjoyed planning and entertaining for Roy's business and family events. She was a talented seamstress, gardener, and had a lifelong interest in collecting rocks and shells. She was an avid reader, acquiring a large library, loved to travel, especially to Hawaii. She especially enjoyed the month-long adventure taken with her family to Europe, visiting friends in the Netherlands, Switzerland, England, Germany, Austria, Italy, and France.

Frances is survived by two daughters, Catherine (Kit) Carson of Paradise, and Linda (Marc) Springer of Garden Valley, California. She is also survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
