Alexander J. Toland - Class Of 1985 VIEW PROFILE

Alexander J. Toland

It is with tremendous sadness the Traister/Toland family announce the death of their beloved son, Alexander Joseph Toland. Alex was born at St John's Hospital in Santa Monica on December 17, 1966 and died June 13, 2018 of complications from Hypokalemia, a condition which he fought for many years.

He attended High Point Academy in Pasadena, Marengo Elementary School in South Pasadena, and Barrow Hills School and Pierrepont Boarding School in Frensham England. Returning to South Pasadena with his family in 1982, he attended South Pasadena High School through graduation there with the Class of '85.

He had a successful career in Hospitality, including positions as Assistant General Manager at San Juan Hills Golf Club and as the Restaurant Manager and Event Coordinator at Marbella Country Club. He was an avid and low-scoring golfer himself and was also a member of the Club Managers Association of America.

Being a charter member of an ownership group operating a lovely, old, power cruiser restored as an elegant private and commercial 'event boat' inspired Alex to become an accomplished Master Mariner and Captain of the 60' yacht, the 'Amada'. To those who knew him, he was one of life's memorable personages. He was generous, funny, compassionate, and forgiving, who in so many ways, touched and enriched the lives of all he met with a full measure of his special brand of laughter and love.

Alex is survived by his mother and stepfather, Susann and Richard Traister of Ashland, Oregon; his father, Fred Toland of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; brothers Rick (SPHS '84), Jeffrey, and Christopher Toland; step-brothers Bryce and Blake Traister; and countless friends and acquaintances collected over the years.
