Matthew Garth Davis

Matthew Garth Davis passed away on March 5, 2018 after battling cancer for two years. Matt was born in Hartford, Connecticut on January 6, 1969. He was the last of seven children born to Dolores and Hodge Davis. Matthew spent most of his elementary and high school years in California and graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1987. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from Pitzer College, Claremont, California and later earned a Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee.

After graduating from Pitzer College, he began working in higher education admissions at Kenyon College and DePauw University. While working at DePauw he met his wife Audra. They enjoyed raising their two children, Asha and Solomon. Matt held leadership and consultant roles at Healthcare Performance Partners and Andersen Consulting. In addition, Matt was an executive in manufacturing companies (Illinois Tool Works and Cummins, Inc). He most recently went back to education and family services work as the COO for The Ounce of Prevention Fund, a Chicago-based organization providing education and family services to underserved families in America. He has contributed to the communities he lived in through his work with 100 Black Men of Chicago, Inc, actively serving as a mentor for the West Chicago program and co-chair of the college fair. Matt also is a member of Calibr Global Leadership Network and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc, public service fraternity.

Besides his wife of 17 years and daughter and son, Matt is survived by his brothers, Christopher, Peter, and Jon (SPHS '83); sisters, Ruth, Susan (SPHS '79), and Sally (SPHS '81); nieces, nephews, and cousins.
