School Memories

Slipping on wet pavement, my arms were locked inside my coat sleeves, lying on the ground in front of the doorway to a class room. I could not get up and classmates were stepping over me to get into the room.

Most vivid memory.

Milestones & Epiphanies

Finally getting the Gottlieb Fellowship after applying for 20 yrs, enabling me to rebuild my loft, spend more time in Rome and buy a Pasquini Livia 90 (espresso machine).

Public art: Freeway underpass sculpture project in 2004. Titled "Neighborhood Convergence", twelve 13ft high 1/2" articulated steel figures (painted) become giant shadow puppets at night illuminating two side of the pedestrian under-crossing at highway I-80 and Powell street in Emeryville, Calif.

Orchids, only the ones that I don't kill and lately Nepenthes (pitcher plants). Latte art. Playing my Tenor 'C' Purple-clay Double ocarina. Flexible nib fountain pens.

Favorite book: the Name of the Rose

One last comment...

After So Pas I got a BA from La Verne College (the skeleton in my closet), then worked in the Rare Book Room at UC Berkeley before getting a BFA and MFA at CCAC (Calif College of Arts and Crafts. Became active in the Feminist Movement, first teaching job was Humboldt State, then San Jose, SF State, Louisiana State where I lived in a Plantation House, then Univ at Chapel Hill, with installation workshops in Green Bay Wisconsin and SF State. NEA grant enabled me to travel to Europe where I began filling sketchbooks (see web page). Built a mock Pompeian Villa and began an ongoing series of Greco-Roman allegorical paintings spoofing: Ovid's Metamorphosis, politics, the church, sexual politics in the art world. Except for a month in Italy each summer, teaching two days a week in a community college, I'm in my studio most days... painting, drawing, printing. Recent exhibitions have been San Jose Museum of Art, Dominican University, Museum of Modern Art's, Artist's Gallery, Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica, CA, So Lake Tahoe.
I live in a live-work artist's co-op with 45+ artists.
