Joyce Arlene Bennett - Class Of 1939

Joyce Arlene Bennett

Joyce Arlene Bennett went to be with the Lord in heaven on September 13, 2015. She was born in sioux City, Iowa on January 20, 1923 to Walter and Florence Jordan Bennett.

Joyce was well educated, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley  in 1944. After vacationing in Coronado for years with her mother at the Hotel del Coronado, she decided to make it her home. She was one of the first owner's at the Coronado Shores Condominiums, buying her unit in the first building built in 1970. She was active on the Cabrillo HOA committee.

Joyce was a travel agent that took groups on tours all over the world. She wrote travel articles for the newspaper. For years she belonged to the Centurian Club, whose membership required having visited over 100 countries. Joyce never married, but cared for her mother until her passing in 1987. And like her mother, she was very active in the Coronado Chapter of PEO until 2007. She believed in cultivating meaningful friendships.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents and sister, Marilyn Bennett Clark (SPHS '39).
