Margaret J Brown (Rhoads) - Class Of 1942

Margaret J Brown (Rhoads)

Margaret Rhoads died in her home on June 22, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born in Milwaukee to Cleon and Leila Brown. She attended the University of Denver and obtained an Education Degree. She married Robert A Rhoads in December 1949. He preceded her in death.

A kindergarten teacher for 29 years, she gave to her students and parents in Southern California, many of whom are still in contact. Margaret's life was one of giving. After her retirement and move to Grand Junction, Colorado, she trained as a Victim's Assistant. She was often awoken in the middle of the night to comfort victims. She traveled between nursing homes to mend clothing and tend to the needy feet. She gave her time to Church Women United, an organization trying to meet needs in the city through their combined churches. She was active in her church including being a deacon.

Mom delighted in the Wednesday Music Club, Pi Beta Phi, and the Master Gardeners. She was a good neighbor; celebrated with them, brought food, washed floors, anything that was needed. Mother was an inspiration to her family. Teaching us about our loving God, modeling his care and how he reached out to all of us.

Margaret is survived by her children, Vicky Bray and Mari Rhoads of Grand Junction; Steffan Rhoads of San Clemente, California, and Becky Carrow of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
