Jean Smith Brooks, 87, Jefferson City, Missouri, died March 26, 2002 at St Marys Health Center. She was born September 19, 1914 in Torrance, California, a daughter of Richard and Nell Smith. She was married to Phillips Moore Brooks, who died in 1967.

Jean graduated from the University of California. She received her masters in library sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She worked as a librarian with St Louis County Public Library and the Dallas Public Library in Dallas, Texas. She authored a book and several articles about the role of the public library in non-traditional education. She was a resident of the Jefferson City area for the past 16 years. She was a member of the Weavers Guild, the American Library Association, and a life-member of the Torrance Historical Society.

Survivors include one son, Phillips Brooks, Jefferson City, and one daughter, Lorraine Brooks, Jefferson City.
