Margaret 'Peggy' Bennett (Bingham) - Class Of 1955

Margaret 'Peggy' Bennett (Bingham)

Peggy (November 8, 1937 - May 2, 2019) passed away peacefully in her home in Encinitas, California. She succumbed to heart disease and emphysema.

Peggy lived a full and adventurous life. For many years she was a travel agent for an agency in Redondo Beach near her then home in Palos Verdes. She got to go on a number of travel escapades disguised as sponsored trips for agents. She rode elephants and giraffes while in South Africa, climbed the Great Wall of China, took the Orient Express and traveled extensively with her friends throughout Europe.

While living in Palos Verdes she acted as a deacon in the Presbyterian church and participated in the summer youth program for student trips. She also attended Long Beach State University and accumulated many credit hours exploring her art talents.

Peggy and her husband Bill left Southern California and moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1989 living in Camas, Washington, a small town on the Columbia River. While there she attended Washington State University taking classes in literature, art, and writing. Her writing class prompted her to write an essay. Her prize-winning story, "The Ultimate Voyage" was published in the WSU school paper, and later in Tiger Tales 2017.

It was during that same 1989 time period that she and Bill took a vacation to a dude ranch in Arizona. On one of their morning horseback rides through the desert, the trail ride leader asked if anyone would like to ride a donkey that morning. She quickly volunteered and it was a hilarious sight, seeing her galloping through the desert on this jackass.

She and her husband relocated to the San Diego area living in Encinitas in 1994. It was while living here that she enjoyed getting together with fellow '55 classmates, Beverly Smith Willey, Claudia Emery King, Nancy Hampton Asper, and Carol Breitkreutz Pangburn for weekly mahjongg games.

One side of her life was that she cared passionately about her friends, family, and animals, particularly her pets. She was a mom to five dogs, five cats, and one parrot over her 56 years of married life. This doesn't count the endless foster animals that seemed to find the family home.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Bill, son Robert and brother, Richard Bennett '59 of Charleston, South Carolina, and her many friends.

She has now embarked on the ultimate voyage into eternity. May the love of Jesus Christ bless her soul.
