Bob Kirtland

June 19, 1937 - March 2, 2021

Bob was born in Los Angles to Kathryn and Richard Kirtland. He attended South Pasadena High School, Class of 1955 and USC where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity along with his brother Richard (SPSMHS '52).

Bob served in the US Navy as an officer aboard the USS Helena, returning to USC to earn a master's degree in Business Administration in 1963. Upon graduation, Bob invested in real estate and eventually owned his own development company, constructing apartment and industrial buildings. In 1973 Bob married Susan Allen. In 1974 they welcomed a son, Todd, and Bob also became step-father to Tracey and Troy Andrews. Bob was very close to his son Todd. The two spent time together boating at the Balboa Bay Club and of course at Bob's alma mater, USC, where Todd also attended college.

In 1987 Bob married Mary Jane Burkman Tyler '55 and added three more step-daughters, Kathy, Mary Jo, and Amy Tyler to his life. Bob and Mary Jane enjoyed 33 years of marriage with fond memories of travel, domesticity, friends and family. Bob was especially proud of his three granddaughters, with whom he loved to share stories of growing up in San Marino, his time at USC and his days in the Navy aboard the USS Helena.

Bob is survived by his wife Mary Jane, brother Richard '52, son Todd and his wife Jennifer, granddaughters Gwyneth, Jillian, and Audrey, as well as four step-children and three step-grandchildren.
