Randall Steven Johnson, son of Russell and Carol Scott Giffin, passed away January 8, 2021, in Orem, Utah. He was born July 18, 1959 in Los Angeles and attended South Pasadena High School. As a youth his favorite pastime was playing volleyball at the beach. The oldest of five children, he was a role model for his siblings.

At the age of 19, Randy was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, initially in Madrid, Spain, and then in Kansas City, Missouri. There he learned to love the people with whom he shared the gospel of Jesus Christ. After his mission Randy attended Ricks College, then joined the US Army. While stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, he met Julie Backstein whom he married in 1986. He finished his schooling at Brigham Young University earning a degree in Psychology and completing the ROTC program. While they were in Provo, a son Cort and a daughter Jordan were born.

In December 1989 Randy was in a tragic car accident that left him with a brain injury and severe lifelong limitations. As a result, he spent the first five years post-accident in the care of his dear wife Julie followed by the next 26 years under the care of his beloved mother, Carol. Despite these circumstances, Randy maintained his zest for life and continued to bring joy to everyone he met. He was always the life of the party and loved a good conversation.

Randy is survived by his son Randall Cort Johnson and his daughter Jordan Johnson Crane. He delighted in his seven grandchildren and is also survived by his mother, Carol Giffin and stepfather Dale Giffin; siblings Lynda Johnson Burch (SPHS '78), Beverly Johnson (SPHS '84), Craig Giffin (SPHS '91), and Kevin Giffin (SPHS '93).

Randy was an example of a life well-lived and his memory will forever be in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and serve him. Randy will always remain a testament of happiness, faith, and endurance. His smile brought cheer and love to all who had the privilege of seeing it.
