DeLane Brown (Fowler) - Class Of 1948

DeLane Brown (Fowler)

DeLane Brown Fowler was born July 1, 1930 to Delano and Dorothy Brown in Oakland, California. After nearly three months in various hospitals, DeLane came home with hospice and died June 29, 2018 in Spokane, Washington.

DeLane grew up in San Marino and graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1948. She attended college in St Paul, Minnesota at Macalester College where she studied vocal and piano music and education. While singing in the college choir, she met Lloyd and they were married in Montana in 1953. The last big party mom had was to celebrate their wedding day and renew their vows; a very special occasion which took place in mom's hospital room with dad at her side, surrounded by family and friends.

Their shared love of music led DeLane and Lloyd to sing in church choirs and her faith journey was inspired by the scripture-filled hymns, anthems, and oratorios she loved and memorized. She was also active in Spokane Civic Theatre and opera performances at Eastern Washington University. She was a supporter and volunteer of the Spokane Symphony for many years. DeLane worked in retail since her girls were young, first selling cosmetics, then clothing, and ended her career at a gift store from where she retired. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, reading, and sewing; and for the last several years she and her daughter Jill shared nightly Scrabble games. She loved meeting people and helping them, and is remembered for her beautiful, cheery smile at the Inland Northwest Blood Bank.

DeLane is survived by Lloyd, her husband of 65 years; daughters, Kim and Jill; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She dearly loved her family and prayed for each of them daily. She loved and so appreciated the many cards and visits she had from friends and family during her illness. We miss you, mom, and look forward to seeing you again in Heaven!
