Deborah Hannah Reveles

April 28, 1962 - May 15, 2022

After several years struggling with illnesses caused by an autoimmune disease, our mother passed away this Spring of 2022. Growing up, she would tell us about her time in high school. Fond memories that I admired. In going through my mother's belongings, I discovered her yearbooks, photos and a shoebox. Her yearbooks were filled with thoughtful notes from classmates and friends sending each other off for the summer. I learned a few things about my mom in reading these notes - including why she never let me read them, which made me laugh. The photos I had seen before, highlighting her volleyball accomplishments and her beautiful bright young smile. I finally had a moment to open the shoebox today where I discovered a stack of corsages, cards, notes, and gifts that friends and crushes had sent to my mom over the years. It was amazing to me how long she kept these things. As I read each note, I learned why. Each note called out a few common themes - how much these people cared for my mom, her athleticism, her smile, her laugh, her blue eyes, her sense of humor... These were all things I admired about my mom throughout the years. These will be the memories that live on with my brother and me.
