William Henry Stone - Class Of 1944

William Henry Stone

An amazing man that was very involved in his community and dedicated to his family, William Henry Stone of Covina died peacefully at home on May 1, 2014 with family by his side. A true Southern California native, he was born in Pasadena, California in 1926 and never lived outside Los Angeles County.

Bill graduated from USC with an Industrial Engineering degree and worked for 35 years for Ajax Hardware. He was married to the love of his life, Claire Lenney for over 55 years. He is survived by his daughter Laurie (Eric) Kirkland of Laguna Beach; son Richard (Gladys) Stone of Covina, and grandchildren Miranda (Nick) Loeffler, Wyatt Kirkland, Dorothy (Todd) Witherby, and great-grandson Matthew Witherby.

Bill spent countless hours serving his community as VP for over 20 years with the Covina Valley Historical Society, just as many years as the Treasurer of the Friends of the Covina Public Library, a docent at City Hall and the Workman and Temple Family Homestead. He was deeply involved with the San Dimas Westerners, The Old Spanish Trail Association, The Sierra Club, Laurel & Hardy Society, Covina Vintage Years Program, and the Pasadena Historical Society, etc. He was honored last year on the Wall of Fame at the Covina Park.
