Marcia Thomas (Conway) - Class Of 1959

Marcia Thomas (Conway)

Marcia Thomas Conway, former First Lady of Glendora and Citizen of the Year, died December 28, 2021. Marcia was born November 4, 1941, in South Pasadena, the only child of Wilton and Frances Thomas. She earned a degree in Psychology from Occidental College. Marcia was a Parole Agent with the Department of Corrections for seven years. Marcia then pursued another direction and received her teaching credential from Cal Poly Pomona. She then spent 22 fulfilling years as a teacher of the 5th graders in Baldwin Park and Azusa School Districts. She obtained her masters in Special Education and then continued to work as a special education teacher until her retirement in June 2003. During her teaching career she was awarded Teacher of the Year for all her hard work and dedication. She made an impact in student's lives and always had a huge heart for them no matter their circumstances.

Marcia was active in her community for years. She served as a Band Booster and Tall Flag Mom for the Glendora Tartan Band and a Team Mom for South Hills Little League. She spent time as a Literacy Tutor at the Glendora Library, tutoring children and adults in reading and math. She was involved in volunteering for many different organizations and had the commitment for service and was awarded Citizen of the Year of Glendora with her husband in 2007. In a direct quote from her husband, former Mayor, Mike Conway. "Once people have experienced the joy of working with Marcia, whether it be on The Library Friend's Foundation, The Holiday Basket Program, The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Program, The Literacy Program, The Historical Society, The Preservation Foundation, numerous activities in her church, as a teacher or a parole agent, or many other committees or groups she was involved with, they never want to let her go because they realize people like her don't come along every day."

Marcia is survived by her daughter Krista Einfalt and her son Douglas Swart and their spouses Rodney Einfalt and Robyn Swart and four grandchildren. We have said a long goodbye to her. We have a life time of precious memories of Marcia, even if she did not remember how she impacted so many lives and cared so deeply for everyone.
