Terry Salardino

September 22, 1942 - August 10, 2022

Served as a Guidance Counselor at SPHS from 1983 - 2006

Terry of South Pasadena is survived by her son, Steven Salardino '86 and his wife Helki, two grandchildren and her brother, Steven Bohn. She is predeceased by the recent death of her loving husband, Steve Salardino and son David Salardino '88, and her two brothers, Kevin and Richard Bohn.

The daughter of Howard and Jo Bohn, Terry was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raised in Pasadena where the family moved while she was an infant. A graduate of Pasadena High School (Class of 1960) and Cal State University at Los Angeles, Terry was dedicated to her career in education. As a substitute teacher she was in high demand by teachers and students alike. In 1982 she became a guidance counselor, first at South Pasadena Junior High and then at South Pasadena High School. For over 25 years Terry provided guidance to thousands of students. She gained deep satisfaction helping and inspiring her students to grow and move towards a rewarding future. She was often stopped and thanked by past students (and parents) when she would be out shopping or eating at a restaurant in South Pasadena, and she always remained interested in how her past students were doing.

Terry met her husband Steve while working together at Pasadena's Farley Brother's Moving Company. After marrying in 1964 they lived in and raised their family in South Pasadena. Terry was involved in several local community organizations, including the local League of Women Voters, the Cub Scouts (den mother), PTA, various teaching associations, and the War on Waste Task Force which helped establish the South Pasadena Recycling Center. Terry and Steve were patrons of the Pasadena Playhouse and enjoyed attending plays and basking in the long history of the playhouse. Terry was always 'making memories' and encouraging others to do the same. She loved to take trips with her husband, her family, her friends and her favorite bridge group. Over the years she toured parts of Europe, the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawaii, as well as fulfilling her dream of seeing the Great Wall of China. She loved her friends dearly and they communicated with each other almost daily for 70 years. And she made friends throughout her life belonging to bridge groups, investing groups, teachers groups, traveling groups, and gambling groups. She loved the laughs and camaraderie and sometimes the competition!

The primary focus of Terry's life, however, was centered on family. Her mother was one of her best friends and they spoke everyday on the phone (doing the crossword puzzle on Sundays). She enjoyed nothing more than entertaining her extended family on birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Watching her grandchildren play sports (and play poker) filled her heart. Her smile was infectious and her outlook on life seemed to bring everyone together with a chuckle that said everything will be alright, even during the more trying times of the last few years. With style, grace, humor, and boundless love she supported all those around her unconditionally and her unwavering dedication will be remembered and inspiring for all who knew her.
