I remember George very well. He was a teaching assistant at Stanford's Classics Department in the middle '50s. I was the sole major in the Class of 1958, so we saw a lot of each other! He taught me a lot, was very patient with my stumbling thorugh Lucretius, Ovid's poems, and Tacitus. A quiet charming man, very modest and most polite, he was a real addition to the Department and I believe also gave a well-regarded seminar or two in Stanford's then Humanities Honors program.
