Nila A Landell (Conti)

Nila Ann (Landell) Conti, died May 30, 2009, at the age of 79.  She was a resident of Jackson, California and passed away while under the loving care of the staff at the Jackson Gardens Elder Care Home.  Nila died from complicatons due to Alzheimer's disease.

Nila was born on February 26, 1930, in Los Angeles, California, the only child to Charles and Martha (Patterson) Landell, granddaughter to the Honorable Judge John Landell of Orange County.  In 1940, after the loss of both her parents, she went to live with her aunt and uncle, Earl and Sadye Patterson in Orange County, California.

Nila received her Bachelor's degree from University of California Santa Barbara in 1951 where she was a member of the Chi Alpha Delta female fraternity.  Nila became a school teacher in 1951 and taught in the Santa Barbara School District for 37 years before retiring in 1988.  Nila taught grades one through six at both McKinley and Peabody schools.

Nila loved to travel and visited both Europe and Egypt.  She enjoyed collecting antique cream pitchers and Southwestern art.  She also enjoyed spending her time reading and loved to learn by taking several adult education courses up until she succumbed to the effects of Alzheimer's in the late 1990s.

She is survived by her daughters Lisa Conti and Laurel Watson and a granddaughter Alexandra Watson Tremellen.  She is awaited in heaven by her parents, her aunt and uncle, and her beloved cousin Don Patterson.  In accordance with her wishes, no services were held.
