Craig Elliott Woodburn

Commander Craig Elliott Woodburn, U.S. Navy Ret., 78, and 16 year resident of Atascadero, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008.  Craig was born February 11, 1930 in Los Angeles and raised in South Pasadena.

Craig served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a naval aviator.  He received his education at UCLA, USC, and the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, Calif.  In 1950, he joined the U.S. Navy and retired in 1974 as a Commander.  He worked for Hughes Aircraft as a project manager and liaison with the Pentagon from 1974 until his retirement in 1992.

Craig was a member of the Atascadero Rotary Club and the Atascadero Elks.  He loved to fly fish, golf, and travel. 

Craig is survived by his sister, Janet Lord (Hap) Walter of Templeton; two daughters Laurie (Dudley) Dufort of Rio Vista, Calif., and Susan (Bill) Wiebler of Del Rey Beach, Fla.; two grandsons Jackson and Charlie Wiebler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his loving companion, Carol Hamilton; and special friends George Molina, Chuck Holdridge, and Grigger Jones.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William R. Woodburn and Dorothey A. Woodburn; and brother, Neil Woodburn.
