California Tennis Star Dies When Automobile Leaves Road

Rock Springs, Wyoming, July 4, 1934.  Richard Belote, 22, former California state doubles intercollegiate champion and Los Angeles Times sports writer, was fatally injured ten miles from here late today when a car in which he was riding skidded in a blinding rain storm and plunged down an embankment.

Belote, with a party of California tennis players, was enroute to Denver to compete in the Colorado open tournament starting Saturday.
