Beatrice B Hall (McCracken) - Class Of 1930 VIEW PROFILE

Beatrice Burdette Hall McCracken died peacefully in her sleep on March 14, 2011.  She was born on August 13, 1912 in Los Angeles to Samuel C. and Vesta Hall.  She was the oldest of four children, a brother and two sisters:  Samuel (Class of '32), Charlotte (Class of '34), and Virginia (Class of '37).  She grew up on Fletcher Avenue in South Pasadena.  While at South Pasadena High, Beatrice was highly involved in girls' ahtletic activities.  She participated in volleyball for three years, basketball for four, and track for one year.  She also was involved in speedball, hockey, and dancing.  In addition, she was a member of the S.P. Club, the Girls Athletic Association (GAA), and the Tiger Aquatic Club during her third year.  She was the President/Manager for baseball and a yell leader as well.  In the Copa de Oro of 1930 she stated that her future goal was physical education.

After graduating, she attended Oregon State University in Corvallis for two years where she also was a yell leader.  In addition, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi, a women's fraternity.  She then married Dr. Paul B. McCracken on June 1, 1933 at the Mission Inn, Riverside, California.  They had three children:  Paul B III (Class of '53), Marianne, and David H. (Class of '57) who were raised in Pasadena and South Pasadena.

She and her husband were divorced in 1957.  She remained in Pasadena for a few years and then moved to Laguna Beach and eventually to Newport Beach where she remained for the rest of her life.  She continued to swim throughout most of her life.  In addition she took up golf.  She traveled from time-to-time to Washington state and the east coast to see her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.  Five of her grandchildren are also graduates of South Pasadena High.  She was pre-deceased by daughter Marianne in 2010 and one grandson Alexander MacDonald (Class of '75) in 1982.
