Gretchen Rubins (Sherman)

Gretchen Rubins Sherman passed away December 19, 2014 in Lake Arrowhead surrounded by her family. Gretchen was born January 26, 1933 to Katherine and Ralph Rubins. She was married to retired producer Harry R Sherman and they celebrated their 58th anniversary on December 8, 2014.

Harry and Gretchen moved from Los Angeles to Lake Arrowhead upon retirement where both became deeply involved in the community. Gretchen read to children at the library weekly; she was active in the Mountain Community Hospital Auxiliary, Arrowhead Arts Auxiliary and the Mountain Bruin Club. She was well known for her spirit, wit, and humor. She had been a tireless volunteer most of her life. She was a lifetime member of the Providence/St Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, the Los Angeles Orphanage Guild, including serving as president, and was on the Maryvale Orphanage Advisory Board for 25 years.

Gretchen attended 12 schools during her school years including Okinawa and South Pasadena-San Marino High Schools. She attended USC and Wright-McMahon Business School. She worked at Colgate-Palmolive and the J Walter Thompson Advertising Agency.

Gretchen is survived by husband, Harry Sherman; son Greg Sherman, daughter Alison (Michael) Biskner; two grandchildren; and brother Frederick Rubins.
