Patricia Dobson Schumacher
November 28, 1927 - September 18, 2025
Patricia died at the age of 97. She was born in San Francisco, the daughter of Maude Underwood Dobson and Joseph Watson Dobson. She grew up in San Marino, attended San Marino schools, graduated from South Pasadena High School and then attended Stanford University.
Graduating from Stanford in 1949, she began teaching in the Palo Alto School District returning for graduate work at Stanford, she became an acting instructor in the School of Education teaching and supervising practice teachers. Following the awarding of her degrees, she became a Curriculum Consultant in the Sunnyvale School District and later oversaw the Reading Program in the District. She finished her tenure in Sunnyvale as a school principal in a K-6th school.
At Stanford Summer Alumni College on Economics, she met her husband to be, Jerome York, who was a Lt Colonel in the Army stationed at the Presidio, and then Chair of the Department of Business and Economics at the College of Marin. Pat, as known to all her friends, loved Marin and enjoyed her home in Kent.
Woodlands where she and her husband, Jerry, loved to go hiking in the woods right outside their front door. After his death in 1982, she became involved with the College of Marin Foundation as Treasurer and then as Vice President and in 1996 she was given the title of Honorary Director in appreciation for her 12 years of service on the College Foundation.
In 1995, Pat moved to Villa Marin, where she served on the Board and was president for two years. While living there, she met and married Richard Schumacher, a fellow resident at Villa Marin. He came from Pennsylvania and had retired from Bethlehem Steel as the assistant plant comptroller, and from the Army Reserves as a Lt Colonel. He died in 2009.
Since 1982, Pat has been an active member of PEO and had continued to work on various committees at Villa Marin.
