Florence Shires (Webster) - Class Of 1948

Florence Shires (Webster)

Florence Shires Webster (October 31, 1930 - October 19, 2020) was born in Pasadena to Grace and Wilbur Shires. Flo graduated from South Pasadena High School with highest honors. She began her college career at Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. After two years at Whitworth, Flo transferred to Seattle Pacific College, from where she graduated Cum Laude, having earned a teaching certificate. Later, Flo would attend Columbia College and receive a master's degree in Bible and Missions.

In 1958 Flo joined the Overseas Missionary Fellowship and was assigned to Taipei, Taiwan, where she helped to lay the foundation of Campus Evangelical Fellowship, which grew into a thriving, indigenous student movement throughout the island. She continued in student ministry for the next 37 years.

On Valentine's Day, 1965, Florence was married to the widower, Richard Webster, a fellow missionary involved in the Taiwan student work. With her marriage, Flo instantly became the mother of three children:  Don, Dorothy, and Darlene. Within three years, God gave them two more sons, Larry and Sam, to complete their family.

In 2005, Flo and Dick moved to Anacortes, Washington to join many of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
